Who We Are

Friends of Carmel JMJ is a group endeavoring to assist the Nuns of the Carmel of Jesus Mary and Joseph with fund-raising and other projects involving the successful financial operation of the Monastery buildings and grounds. By helping the Nuns financially, we hope to make it more possible for them to live their lives apart from the world, so as to pray for the Church and for all souls both on earth and in purgatory.

Who We Are Not

It should be stressed that we are NOT the Carmel of Jesus Mary and Joseph, and while our works support the Carmel, we are separate from them. It is not our place to speak for them, to “reveal” them to the world or to in any way breach the Papal Enclosure with which this group has been blessed.

Donations

The Friends of Carmel JMJ is a Pennsylvania Nonprofit Corporation which is tax-exempt under the IRS 501(c)(3) tax exemption. Any donations made to Friends of Carmel JMJ are tax deductible.

Since one of our goals is to relieve the  Sisters of the crushing burden associated with fund raising, it would be preferred that you send your donation to them through the Friends  organization. Please contact us for more information.

HISTORY

The seeds for the Friends of Carmel JMJ were originally planted in 2009 by then Father Waltersheid (now the Auxiliary Bishop of Pittsburgh). He suggested to Mother Stella Marie of Jesus that such a group might be helpful to Mother in raising the large amounts of capital needed to operate and maintain the Monastery and to plan for future development.
